With a great color of flags, music, sports atmosphere and splendor, the Dominican Fencing Federation (FEDOMES), together with the Santiago Fencing Association (ASEGRISA), celebrated the First Fencing Festival in the Arena del Cibao with the participation of athletes from seven provinces, an event that was dedicated to sports journalist Fellito Ortiz.
The president of FEDOMES, engineer Luis Ciprián, in a message sent, valued the work carried out by the board of the Santiago Fencing Association, where the heroes of the March 30 Battle were honored.
“Fencing has started its massification process at the national level and we are going to replicate this same type of event throughout the country with all our associates and the family of our sport,” he said.
In the activity, the president of the Santiago Fencing Association, Carlos Augusto Almonte, spoke, who said that he has a commitment to work together with the federation to mass fencing in schools, high schools, sports centers to prepare the athletes of the future. The biosecurity protocols for covid-19 were saved.
The act began with the parade of athletes from the provinces of La Vega, Salcedo, San Pedro de Macorís, Puerto Plata, Samaná and La Romana, to the beat of the sports march, together with a group of flag bearers. Plaques were presented to the president of FEDOMES, Luis Ciprián, represented by the vice president, Marcos Clase. Ciprián was participating in the General Assembly of the COD. The sports writer Fellito Ortiz, to whom the event was dedicated, was also recognized. He thanked the dedication.
The Vice Minister of Sports of the Northern Region, Juan Vila, and the president of the Sports Union of Santiago, Enmanuel Musa, valued the celebration of this National Fencing Festival and predicted success for the fencing family.
