The Montréal Insectarium will be closed until 2021

The project will enable the public to live a new experience in theatrical and participatory, the Insectarium, the area of which will be 68 % larger than it currently is.

The Insectarium of Montreal, will close its doors on the 11th of march next in order that renovation works are carried out, in particular, to enable its expansion.

The institution renovated located on the grounds of the Montreal botanical Garden will reopen its doors in the summer of 2021.

As to the Biodôme of Montreal, which closed its doors on April 3, last, to suffer him also to major renovations, the public will again be allowed as soon as next summer. It is located right near the Insectarium, the other side of Sherbrooke street East.

Laurence Lavigne-Lalonde, manager, Space for life in the executive committee of the City of Montreal, says that the project will enable the public to live a new experience in theatrical and participatory, the Insectarium, the area of which will be 68 % larger than it currently is.

The authorities report that the new facilities will enable the immersion of the visitor in a series of locations inspired by the habitat of the insects. The new building will be especially equipped with a large vivarium in which visitors can enter and observe insects, including butterflies go free, throughout the year.

The overall cost of the project is currently assessed by the City of Montreal 36,35 million, which is expected that the new Insectary generates additional income and annual 4.3 million, as well as accommodate 475 000 visitors during the first year of opening.

From 11 march until the summer of 2021, some of the activities available to the general public will continue during the work.
