The tensions are vivid in the Union of blue-collar workers grouped placed under guardianship in may 2017 in the wake of complaints received by CUPE.

The blue collar workers of Montreal have refused to ratify the new constitution and bylaws offered by the tutor appointed by the canadian Union of public employees (CUPE) for their union.

At the end of the 7th assembly, Saturday, CUPE announced that none of the 15 components that included the proposal of a new constitution, had won the support of two-thirds of the 568 members who have spoken out in recent weeks. Only 3 of the 15 components have received support in excess of 50 %, but this was insufficient as a rate of 66.6 % was required for their adoption.

“We will therefore immediately deliver the shoulder to the wheel according to what has been expressed in the assemblies. We will provide other avenues to put the union on track without delay. The participation of blue-collar workers, the next steps will be critical, and these are always the ones who decide, ” said Denis Régimbald, guardian of the CUPE 301, by way of a press release Saturday afternoon.

Seven meetings have been held in recent weeks, the 22, 23 and 24 January, and 2 February, in order to allow the membership to decide.

The tensions are vivid in the Union of blue-collar workers grouped placed under guardianship in may 2017 in the wake of complaints received by CUPE. With its proposal of the new bylaws, the CUPE wanted to clean up the climate to the union and put an end to concentration of powers in the hands of three officers, including the presidency. The new statutes also aimed to review the election rules and to introduce more transparency in the management of the finances of the union.

Note that the checks carried out by the guardian Denis Régimbald, have revealed no evidence of embezzlement or misappropriation of funds, but an “administration deficient” and ” important gaps in organizational “

It is planned that the trusteeship be lifted at the end of the month of may.
