Shakman’s name is not so famous yet, because he made only one feature film in cinemas (An Uncomfortable Witness), but he is a very experienced television director (eg Dr. House, Fargo, The Good Wife, Game of Thrones or WandaVision).
In 2016, Paramount released Star Trek Beyond by director Justin Lin, where a new generation of actors appeared – Chris Pine as James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. The film was not bad, but $ 343 million in gross sales is not considered a success in Hollywood. Therefore, the producers were quite hesitant to continue.
For about two years, it has been speculated that the new “Trek” would be filmed by Quentin Tarantino, which could have been an interesting move, but it never happened. Perhaps the fact that Tarantino started talking in the media about the harsh, youth-inaccessible Star Trek also contributed to the collapse of the project. This usually seems like a red rag to film producers, because without youth in cinemas they will lose money.
Some time ago, veteran Nicholas Meyer, who directed Star Trek 2: Khan’s Wrath and StarTrek VI: Undiscovered Land, also spoke out on a certain topic. He also wrote the screenplay for Star Trek IV: The Way Home. But Paramount Studio wasn’t thrilled with the idea.
