Charles Leclerc prepares Imola at Fiorano: it seems that he is going back to the old days in which Ferrari’s “home circuit” served to add many test kilometers, although not with the current car since that is not allowed. In this case, the Monegasque leads the SF71H, the three-year-old car that the Prancing Horse team uses for driver training.
The Leclerc test is a continuation of the work that Ferrari started on Friday with Robert Shwartzman Y Marcus Armstrong, who completed about 400 kilometers without problems.
It should not be forgotten that before the start of the 2021 season, Ferrari had organized a five-day test at Fiorano in which the two starting drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, and the youngsters, including Mick Schumacher, participated.
Leclerc, therefore, has the opportunity to train on the track rather than in the simulator, taking advantage of one of the opportunities that Ferrari has, owning two circuits (Fiorano and Mugello). In recent years, the use of Fiorano had taken a back seat, but now it seems to be a more common workplace for the Italian team.
Ferrari has prepared the SF71H for these tests, while modifying an SF90 for the development of Pirelli’s 18-inch tires that will arrive in 2022.
Leclerc is undoubtedly the busiest rider on the track recently, as after the Bahrain GP he participated in the tests organized by Pirelli in Sakhir with the aforementioned next year’s tires, together with Carlos Sainz, and at that test. now joins this working day in Fiorano with the SF71H.
For the avoidance of doubt, we recall that the Ferrari car is equipped with “demo” tires that Pirelli makes available on filming days.
