Dean Bergeron as Honorary President

The 42nd edition of the Provincial Hockey Tournament will take place at the Jean-Claude Tremblay Center in La Baie, May 3-5, under the honorary chairmanship of Dean Bergeron.
“We are so proud of this,” says the head of the organizing committee, Isabelle Thibeault.

The connection between hockey, health and Dean Bergeron is not hard to do. In 1987, Baieriverain’s life changed during the Shawinigan Cataractes training camp. The young hope made a bad fall during a scuffle in an intra-team match, which made him paraplegic.

After a long rehabilitation that introduced him to the world of health, he embarked on a second career that took him to the four corners of the planet and to the top of wheelchair athletics with 11 medals in four Paralympic Games.

After being inducted into the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, the actuary was admitted to the Parasports Qu├ębec Hall of Fame last year and also saw the second ice cream at the baieriverain sports center named in his honor.

“It was like a natural alliance. He is a native of The Bay, it’s a health tournament, and he just got his name on the second ice cream. We all know his passion, his story, his determination. He had an extraordinary career. We could not have had better as honorary president, “says Isabelle Thibeault, stating that the principal did not hesitate before accepting the invitation of the organizers.

It Works The Provincial Hockey Tournament is primarily for health professionals. Each team must consist of at least half of players working in the health field. “When we talk about health professionals, it’s not just a doctor or a nurse as people might think. It’s really an employee in the field of health, “says Isabelle Thibeault, giving the example of an employee of the laundry. In addition to the various meetings, a VIP lounge will be set up for players with different activities during the weekend.

In total, 16 teams are registered in the three classes, open, 40 years and over and female. No purse will be awarded to the winner. All money raised will be donated to the Foundation of my life. The official opening match will be played at 11:30 am on Saturday morning.
