Brian B.: Kafelnikov and Ferreira offered to split the prize and give us the title

Multiple winners of the tournament “Grand slam” in doubles, Americans Bob and Mike Bryan told about the attitude to the tournament in Indian wells, which they won in 2013 and 2014.

“This is one of the most difficult doubles tournament. In 2003 we reached the finals and had to play with Eugene of Kafelnikov and Wayne Ferreira. The day before the game, they came up to us and said he was very tired, as has long been in the way, and wanted to return home. They offered to split the prize and give us the title,” said Bob Bryan Los Angeles Times.

“We then talked to my dad. We had 25 years, and we decided that we will win and want to do it on the court. So we refused the offer. We wanted to play for the title. And he did it. And lost,” said Mike Bryan.

This year the tournament was cancelled due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus.
