On the eve of the international day of strike action for the climate, at least 148 500 students from Quebec had chosen to disengage, to take part in the movement which called for greater ambition in the fight against climate change.

By recognising the students of universities and junior colleges which have opted for a one-day general strike, on march 15, the group “The planet is invited to the university” evaluated on Thursday by the end of the day that the 148 500 students had voted for a one-day general strike.

These students, distributed in 116 student associations from 35 higher education institutions from different regions of Québec, would therefore take part in one of around ten events planned on Friday. In Montreal, the event must start before the mont Royal, on Parc avenue, a 13-h. In Quebec, the appointment of the protesters was also given to 13 h, in front of the city hall.

Visiting Montreal on Thursday, the canadian minister of the Environment, Catherine McKenna, has offered its support to the young people who will make the strike to demand climate policy more ambitious. To meet the needs of these young people, who called for an end to the exploitation of fossil fuels, Ms. McKenna has simply recognized that Canada, which has the third oil reserves in the world, is today in a process of “transition” energy.

The mayor of Montreal, Valerie Plant, but also to the minister of the Environment of Quebec, Benoit Charette, and welcomed the involvement of young people in Quebec in this initiative in the climate. Representatives of the Parti québécois, the liberal Party and Québec solidaire, have also signified their intention of taking part in the demonstrations planned on Friday.

A Candidate for the Nobel
