Three athletes share $ 10,000

Three athletes from the Saguenay are among the 49 recipients who share $ 158,000 in bursaries related to the success of the 808 Bonneville 2018 Challenge. Thus, Judo Olympian Antoine Bouchard and skateboarder Océane Fillion each received a $ 4,000 scholarship, while that the young curling player, Noémie Gauthier, received a $ 2000 scholarship.
The e jonquiérois judoka Antoine Bouchard, who plays in the 73 kg is currently in Peru, where he participated in the Pan Am Championships. Bronze medalist at the Grand Prix of Marrakech (Morocco) and Panamerican champion, Bouchard is studying for a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the Université du Québec à Montréal.

The 24-year-old athlete has maintained an academic average of 83% since the beginning of her classes and would like to continue her studies in science after obtaining her bachelor’s degree. He received a scholarship to emphasize his academic excellence.

As for Océane Fillion, the 20-year-old Saguenéenne is a specialist in slopestyle. She also won a scholarship for academic excellence. Bronze medalist in slopestyle at the Nor-Am Cup at Mount St. Louis Station Moonstone, Ontario, she was also a slopestyle gold medalist at the Air Nation Series events in Mont-Tremblant.

She graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and maintained an academic average of 3.92 in the last session. In a future dream job, she would like to be able to pair marketing or perhaps accounting with snowboarding.

The young curling player Noémie Gauthier is not left out. Junior Canadian junior champion in 2018 and fourth at the Canadian Junior Championships, she won a scholarship to support academic and athletic success. The 18-year-old Jonquiéroise is studying radiodiagnostic technology at Cégep de Sainte-Foy.

These athletes were sponsored by Cogeco Media, which is one of 17 partners or participants involved. Note that the third edition of the 808 Bonneville Challenge will take place on September 13 and 14 in Mont-Tremblant. The event is for the benefit of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ).

The 2019 edition will once again stand out this year with its unique 404 km loop, with the Tremblant Resort as a central point, where cyclists of all levels will be able to take up a challenge between 100 km and 808 km, either solo or in a team of two or four.

Two new distances have been added, the Nordet loop of 115 km and the combo of 240 km, which includes the two loops over two days.
